Requiescat in pace - Carl Reiner

Carl Reiner will be remembered for his long career and incredible talent, for being a mensch, for being a pioneer of early television.  For just a moment, let's remember a scene from those early years and the man who came into our living rooms as a friend we loved and looked forward to seeing.  Here from the fantastic Your Show of Shows, he provides support to Sid Caesar in one of the funniest sketches ever performed on television.  How fitting that it is also a parody of television. From April 3, 1954...

Hilarious! A perfect way to remember Carl Reiner. There was always something "eww" about that show, quite worthy of spoofing here, and It's Always Fair Weather.

In her younger years, Janet confessed to a crush on Alan Brady. It is time for a "Rob" marathon.

I love the episode with Alan Brady's hairpieces.

You know what I miss? The silliness that used to be part of TV comedies. Today there's too much sarcasm delivered in too much rapid-fire dialogue, with every single character on the couch written to be so nauseatingly clever. The comedy, such as it is, might elicit smirks from the audience, but never the belly laughs we got from the old off-the-wall silliness from some of the best comedies of the long-ago shows.

Haha! That is a fun clip you posted.

It was a sad day when Carl Reiner died. I was able to see him present "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" at TCMFF a few years ago, and he seemed like a smart, decent person.

One of the funniest TV sketches I've ever seen; right up there with "Went with the Wind" from The Carol Burnett Show ("I saw it in a window and I Just couldn't resist").
