We pay tribute today to that long-ago party prop, the dance card. I have an old dance card of my mother's tucked into an equally-old scrapbook. Probably from a high school prom or such. We don't seem to line up our dance partners like a Things To Do list anymore, but there was something quaint about the propriety of it. Whose dance card is shown above, and from what movie?

These two lovely girls fill out the dance card of another--with names of geeky boys to play on trick on her. Of course, she has to dance with them, because their names are on her card. If you don't follow the card, you'll probably go to hell or something. The road to hell is paved with people who don't dance with whoever's next on their card. That's an old saying. Maybe you've heard it.

I love how the card dangles from her wrist, making them seem like a trio rather an a duo. Name the dancers, and the movie.

Of course, there's no rule that says you have to tie the card to your wrist. You can just carry it in your mouth if you want. Who, and what movie?

Hahahaha "The road to hell is paved with people who don't dance with whoever's next on their card. That's an old saying. Maybe you've heard it." Oh that made me smile! My Girlfriend and I have thought about handing out Dance Cards out our formal dances, but since our "Year" is 1959 we think its to late, when we revert back to 1943 as our Theme year, the yes we will be keeping dance cards alive!
What a lovely theme. It's Judy and Lucille in Meet Me in St Louis and Doris Day as Calam
A. Since You Went Away---the only reason I would want a dance card is something like that. Too sweet.
Ann Hilton (Colbert) is looking through her scrap book while her husband is away at war and reminiscing.
B.Lucille Bremer and Judy Garland being mean to June Lockhart lol in Meet Me in St. Louis
C. Judy Garland and Harry Davenport dancing in Meet Me in St. Louis.
I love the concept of dance cards but don't think I'd be popular enough for that now. Mine would be empty lol
Surely there must be a dance card app?
D: Doris Day as Marjorie in "On Moonlight Bay". I could hedge my bets by saying "or By the Light of the Silvery Moon", but I'm going to live dangerously and stick with Moonlight Bay.
Mick, those formal dances sound like a lot of fun.
I think the last one is CALAMITY JANE?
Haven't seen that movie in ages. But I remember thinking that Jane wouldn't have her Wild Bill for long. Since Hickock was destined to be shot in the back if I remember correctly.
Poor Wild Bill. She'll have to scratch him off her dance card.
