Comedy Classics Blogathon

This is to announce next week's "comedy classics" blogathon, sponsored by the Classic Movie Blog Association.

On Monday, we're going to take on "More Than a Secretary" (1936) with Jean Arthur, George Brent, Ruth Donnelly, Dorothea Kent, and Lionel Stander.   Jean plays the owner of a secretarial school who becomes the secretary of the editor of a health magazine.  It's typical 1930s screwball, and yet curiously far-seeing when we get a load of editor George Brent's healthy lifestyle.

Visit the Classic Movie Blog Association website here for a list of the other participating blogs.

Jacqueline, I was confident that you'd choose one of the great Jean Arthur's comedies for the upcoming CMBA Comedy Classics Blogathon! I've never seen MORE THAN A SECRETARY, but I look forward to reading your blog about it!

Looking forward to your post on the great Stanwyck in "Ball of Fire", and Oscar.

Like the others, I haven't seen More Than A Secretary either. I can't wait to read your post about it. Jean was awesome in screwball comedies.

Thanks, Monty. Yes, Jean was something pretty special.

I saw MORE THAN A SECRETARY close to five years ago and found it an interesting mix of outdated ideas and philosophies which are still very timely. Will be fun to read your take on it!

Best wishes,
Laura

Hi, Laura. I agree this movie is a wierd combination of some outdated ideas, with some other notions that are really very topical today. It's an unusual and kind of fun movie for that reason, I think.
