If you could have any prop from any classic film, what would it be?
I just saw a post like this on Facebook and I thought I'd swipe the idea for us, but I'd like to expand that to ask what you may already own. Many of you are collectors of classic film memorabilia anyway and I'd love to know what you have in your collections.
So, what do you have, and what do you want?
Personally, I think I'd get a big kick out of an off-screen item: one of those canvas director's chairs with the name of...oh, say, Humphrey Bogart on it, or Barbara Stanwyck, or Ann Blyth...or Joseph Cotten...or....
I have framed a number of affordable lobby card reproductions and relive movie memories by giving each one its turn in the stairwell throughout the year. Also affordable is my Maltese Falcon tote bag and my Laurel and Hardy mug.
ReplyDeleteWhat I dream of having are used shooting scripts of favourite movies, plus the rolltop desk from His Girl Friday.
The hourglass from the Wizard of Oz. Last I heard, Willard Carroll owned the original.
ReplyDeletePaddy, I love your seasonal rotation of lobby cards. Shooting scripts, that's an idea. Yeah, I'd love that. If you had the rolltop desk, would you climb into it? Apparently, that's what they're for.
ReplyDeleteAh, the hourglass from the Wizard of Oz. Scares me just to think about it. It's fun to learn where some of this stuff actually ended up.
I love this question... It got me thinking. At first all I could think of was "Well, the Maltese falcon, of course!" (because of the image you chose). Or something else "obvious" like the Rosebud sled. But since "Wizard of Oz" is one of my top three all-time favorite movies I think anything from that would suffice.
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty interesting list of options; I had fun going through them with my husband: https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/greatest-movie-props
Great choices, Sylvia. It's always interesting to see what occasionally pops up in auctions. (Not to mention the price.)
ReplyDeleteMy wishlist would include all of Grace Kelly's jewellery in North by Northwest and Rear Window.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah!
ReplyDeleteI want the "self" portrait of Kitty from Scarlet Street, my all-time favorite film noir!
