"Shane"-sized piece, I love it. We never got more than a sliver, and I always marvel at the food portions you see in these movies. (I can never finish a meal in a restaurant, always bringing leftovers home.) I won't give away the clues in "A", but I will tell you he's cooking steak. Two of them. The most enormous slabs of steak I've ever seen and I can hardly concentrate on the rest of the movie for thinking about a single person devouring what would have, when I was growing up, been meant to feed my entire family.
Think C might be REMEMBER THE NIGHT? E is SUMMER STOCK and F is MILDRED PIERCE.
Is that Bruce Bennett again in G?
Love those milk bottles on the counter in H. Watching MAID'S NIGHT OUT last night caused me to remember the days of home delivered milk in bottles with some longing...
Hi, Laura. I remember the milk truck making deliveries on my street growing up, though by that time my parents had long since taken to hauling the glass gallon jugs home from the store. I can still hear the sound of them clattering together on the floor of the back seat on the turns.
Sorry, I'm not a gamer type, but I'd like to name two early Jean Arthur films:
History Is Made at Night (1937) Jean Arthur cooks scrambled eggs for Charles Boyer, in a very noble restaurant after closing time.
If You Could Only Cook (1935) Jean Arthur has a job as very talented cook, not knowing her boss (Leo Carillo) is a dangerous gangster; her lover (butler) is Herbert Marshall.
I'm going to leave the guessing to the pro's, Jacqueline but what a clever post.
It appears, CaftanWoman is racking up the points over here. I think it's only fitting that she wins an oven mitt if she comes through with all of the correct answers.
I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Page
Clarissa, I love both those Jean Arthur movies. I've covered "History is Made at Night" before, but I've got to get to "If You Could Only Cook" sometime.
Page, I love idea of Another Old Movie Blog oven mits. I'm putting you in charge of merchandizing.
For a second there I thought you were trying to pull a fast one with G/H. That's Martha Scott in, I believe, "Strange Bargain".
ReplyDeleteD is Jean Arthur in my beloved "Shane". When there is pie to be served in our family a "Shane" sized piece is always requested.

Love the "Shane-sized" pie pieces!
Looking forward to the answers on Monday!
Best wishes,
Laura

Jacqueline, "If You Could Only Cook" is not a great movie, but its extremely cute and Jean is very funny.
