The 1928 version seems to cut to the chase and hit all the bullet points, which I think was common to most silent films, except for the epics. Many people change, but it takes courage. It is so much more engrossing than the boring (to me) talkie remake in the 1950s. That movie has its good points, but not the overall verve of the earlier picture. <br /><br />Fascinating history lesson. People really do not change, do they?
