I'll see if I can search these out sometime.Jacqueline T. It might be a good one to compare with this to see how the protagonists are differently handled in similarly themed flicks.

Hey, have you seen Caged (1950)? It's not a crime flick, but a prison picture that puts a good girl who goes wrong type of protagonist through the ringer and in the end she chooses a path we might not expect (don't what to spoil it if you haven't see it yet). It might fit nicely with your study of female protagonists in the 1950s.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092350404895325373.post-49858469465382861432009-04-13T08:03:00.000-04:002009-04-13T08:03:00.000-04:00I love "Night of the Hunter". I had not considered "Body Snatchers", but you're right, SF is usually in the same vein, especially all those post-war Atomic age creatures, playing on our worst fears.

"Make Haste" actually is a good attempt, but I really think they pulled punches. If this movie had been made even five years later they might have not been so timid about pushing it, in terms of what sort of violence the female protagonist must face, or must inflict herself, and what the consequences of her actions must be.Jacqueline T. Too bad this one falls apart after such a tasty set-up. Still, I think I'll keep an eye out for it to show up on TCM.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092350404895325373.post-30214394560427889232009-03-29T13:37:00.000-04:002009-03-29T13:37:00.000-04:00Hi, K. I've been meaning to blog on that film for some time, but there's too much to discuss about it. I think it needs breaking down in chunks for any in depth discussion. Maybe you've just given me a reason, and an angle to start.Jacqueline T.
