But you're right, when the real story is so gruesome, we have to wonder why we like murder mystery stories so much.Jacqueline T. ARSENIC AND O...Thanks for a great post, Jacqueline. ARSENIC AND OLD LACE is one of my very favorite Halloween movies - though my new Halloween night post - stay tuned - doesn't include it this year. Why? Just ran out of time, I think. Anyway, I've always felt that Cary Grant was deserving of an Oscar nod for his crazed portrayal of Mortimer Brewster.

But who knew the story was based on a real-life crime? I certainly didn't. Wow. Not so funny when it's real.

Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092350404895325373.post-17103507635530851492016-10-28T18:39:14.124-04:002016-10-28T18:39:14.124-04:00This post has inspired some very macabre comments....This post has inspired some very macabre comments. I had no idea how many Abbys and Marthas were out there.

Let me see, who could we get to be Teddy? I think we're going to have to call for volunteers.Jacqueline T. Apparently she used insulin which is difficult to detect. The home's oversight is in question (!!). This woman does not present as one of those charming caregivers, but a deeply troubled person who had grudges against the various patients in her care. Most disturbing.

On a lighter note - I'm Abby, you're Martha - who do we know to fill the other parts?Caftan Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05936895555808823221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092350404895325373.post-72505178730694964302016-10-28T06:55:03.076-04:002016-10-28T06:55:03.076-04:00Yikes. Her name was Caroline Grills and she poisoned members of her family in the 1940s and 50s, first to inherit their property and then just for fun. The poison was thallium, a rat poison for which you didn't have to sign. It didn't kill immediately but made the victim horribly sick... and she'd nurse team devotedly as they were dying. Like Amy, she was sentenced to life in prison. And she was so charming! Even the prisòn staff, who knew what she'd done, liked her; she was affectionately called Aunty Thally. I actually met an older lady who had been a prison nurse and said, "She was such a sweet woman!" Urk. Sue Bursztynskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09362273418897882971noreply@blogger.com
