Hard for me to review the movie, because of my closeness to Santa Rosa, where I was raised. I find it much better than I had imagined it would be. Two of your photos I would like to use in a memoir I have written about Hollywood, and I will credit your blog. I LOVE the one from Shadow, with Theressa Wright going up the stairs. I knew that wonderful old library very well! There is a chapter in my book about the making of Storm Center.

A fan of Davis, I was impressed by how she played the role of the librarian with such librarian with admiral restraint.

Thanks!

David LewisShowbiz Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08921904778000552196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092350404895325373.post-8383623126420501462012-03-21T09:26:07.846-04:002012-03-21T09:26:07.846-04:00Thanks Dave. I agree about the title, it's typically bland. A few titles from old movies really stand out, but quite a lot I find really carry no flavor of the film they represent at all. They could mean anything, be pasted on any movie and work as well.Jacqueline T. That is one spooky library that I can easily see in an old Boris Karloff picture.

Another beautifully written review.
PagePagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15063277863578004836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092350404895325373.post-75850676545733050442012-03-15T17:36:33.049-04:002012-03-15T17:36:33.049-04:00A very good point, Dorian.A very good point, Dorian.Jacqueline T. "Message films" like this one could be awfully heavy-handed in their attempts to tackle powder-keg issues, but I guess we can't fault people -- including filmmakers -- for NOT being ahead of their time!DorianTBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01357778472575080022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092350404895325373.post-28590402253378183382012-03-15T15:12:21.218-04:002012-03-15T15:12:21.218-04:00Kim, I agree "Trial" is the more well ma...Kim, I agree "Trial" is the more well made film of the two. However, I think the chief virtue of "Storm Center" is the way it brings the cruelty of the repression down to such a simple level even a child could understand it. I would even call it a "family film" even with it's intense and upsetting finale; and "Trial" might have a more narrow audience.Jacqueline T. Storm Center is rather annoying--and I;m a Bette Davis fan. I like that they took on tough issues. As for Storm Center and why it didn't come out earlier--it would have never been released in 1950. It was safe in 1956 to say that extremism was a problem.Kimberly J.M. Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09078951928157843937noreply@blogger.com
