Happy Presidents Day

Happy Presidents Day, for those of us in the U.S.   Happy retail sales.  Happy day off.

Others are more reverent.  Here, Connie Milligan, clearly a Lincoln groupie, celebrates her favorite Commander-in-Chief all year long with a modest shrine.  Below. Fred, Majorie, and a resentful Bing, pay homage to One Number in a pastiche of Washington clich├ęs and American history via Irving Berlin.

My favorite Presidents' story is about Silent Cal Coolidge. A woman sitting next to him in an audience said to him, "I made a bet that I could get you to say more than two words." Coolidge replied, "You lose." (Probably not in a movie, though.)

Hi, Fred. Silent Cal sure knew how to maintain his image.

one of my favourite jean arthur films! i love that little car her friends drive around in. in "the actress nobody knew," she claims that the reason she married her first husband, julian ackner, was because he resembled lincoln. i wonder if the inclusion of that photo was some kind inside joke!

I understand her then current husband, Frank Ross, was part of the writing team for this movie, and the character was actually written for her. So, it could have been an inside joke. She must have been a real Honest Abe fan.

Speaking of presidents day: Happy Presidents Pets Day - the day after Presidents Day, as I like to call it. In the US, of course we love our presidents..... pets. See my blog if you’re in the mood for a good ol' irreverent howl.
